Christopher Nolan adapted Homer, and his cast treated the red carpet as part of the text. Across the London world premiere on 6 July and the New York premiere on 14 July, the brief barely wavered: draped, sculptural, mostly ivory, occasionally armoured.
Method dressing has spent two years sliding towards fancy dress, so I went in ready to be annoyed. It works here, and the reason is boring but real. Greek costume was already about drape and proportion, so the cast could reference it without ending up in a costume-shop toga. Ivory did most of the heavy lifting. Gold did the rest.

Finely pleated ivory silk, a plunging strapless bodice, a split cut to the hip, and then the part everyone screenshotted: feathered wings falling from the shoulders into a train that drags several feet behind her. Law Roach pulled it from Matières Fécales’ autumn 2025 collection. What saves it is everything underneath, which is deliberately plain — white pointed courts, an undone braid, barely any makeup. Take the wings off and you are left with a pleated column gown and a high split, a shape the high street has got very good at.

The looks that landed here all moved. Pleating, plissé and slinky jersey read expensive because of the way they fall; a stiff beaded dress at the same price rarely manages it. Buy the fabric that moves.

Wings, a corset, a bow, a blue flower. Each of them picked one focal point and shut everything else up around it. Two loud elements just compete, and the look goes flat.
Choose metal jewellery, not crystal
Crystal against an embellished dress repeats what the dress already said. A gold collar, a pearl choker or plain heavy hoops against plain drape is the thing that makes it look deliberate rather than borrowed.
