Sunrise on the Reaping: The Premiere Looks, and How to Wear Them
Elle Fanning’s Effie pink, Mckenna Grace’s arena gown and more from the Hunger Games London screening, with the high-street versions to shop.
The Hunger Games cast has never really treated a red carpet as a red carpet. It's more of a costume fitting with cameras. On Wednesday night the Sunrise on the Reaping cast turned up at the UK fan screening at Westfield London, three weeks before the film opens on 20 November, and it’s safe to say - inspirations from the Hunger Games world came through hard. Elle Fanning was Effie. Mckenna Grace was, more or less, the arena. Kieran Culkin brought a bit of Caesar Flickerman sparkle. Ralph Fiennes wore a navy suit and made it very clear he wasn't playing.
None of these exact outfits will turn up at a Christmas party near you. But every one of the eight has one idea you can take home, usually a colour, a shape or a single detail. Here they are, with the high-street pieces that get you most of the way.

MCKENNA GRACE
Grace plays Maysilee Donner, and she's spent this whole press tour dressing in Hunger Games references. Wednesday's was the biggest yet: an ALmée Couture gown embroidered like the meadow of the Quarter Quell arena, with flowers that stand up off the fabric. She matched the make-up to it too, with lilac eyeshadow and bubblegum gloss. You don't need a landscape on your dress to borrow this. One raised floral detail, a corsage or a dress with appliqué flowers, gives you the same texture without looking like you've come as a garden centre.

ELLE FANNING
Fans campaigned for Fanning to play Effie Trinket long before she was cast, and she's repaying them by method dressing. This was straight off Robert Wun's Fall 2026 couture runway: a strapless pink bodice with a rippling peplum, a huge tulle skirt, and a headpiece with a tiny ballerina inside it. The one change was the shoes, swapping the runway's sculptural heels for plain pink pumps, which tells you everything. Keep the headpiece at home. Take the pink tulle skirt, wear it with a fitted black or pink knit, and match your shoes to the skirt.
Shop the Look
Two premiere trends, and whether to buy into them
Dressing as your character. Fanning, Grace and Culkin all did it, and Grace has done it on nearly every stop of the tour. My verdict: skip the costume, keep the nod. If you're going to see the film on opening weekend, one hint (a pink accessory for Effie, a floral for the arena) is fun. A full Capitol look in the cinema foyer is a lot.
Flowers you can touch. Grace's gown was covered in raised blooms, and co-star Molly McCann wore a white dress with three-dimensional flowers too. This is the one to buy. Appliqué and corsage details make a plain party dress look expensive, and they'll work well past January.
How to wear Sunrise on the Reaping off the carpet
TAKE THE COLOUR, NOT THE COSTUME
Effie pink works in one big piece, a skirt or a coat. Keep the rest plain and let the pink do the talking.
PUT SOFT NEXT TO HARD
Peak's chiffon looks softer because of the black texture beside it. A floaty skirt with a chunky knit does the same job.
ADD ONE DARK ACCESSORY
Glenn Close’s moss-green bows look grown-up because of the single black leather glove. Put black gloves, boots or a bag with a pretty dress and it suddenly works for December.
The film is in cinemas on 20 November. If you're going opening night, tell the SO-ME stylist what you're after, "something Effie pink for a cinema night under £60", and it'll pull options from new, preloved and rental in one go.
