Coast is the high street brand that never really acted like one. While everyone else chased the trend cycle, Coast quietly kept doing the thing it's actually good at: dresses for the events you have to show up to. Weddings, yes, but also the black-tie do, the milestone birthday, the awards night where jeans are not an option.

For a party, that reputation cuts both ways. You get proper embellishment and real structure at high street prices. You also have to steer around the bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride rails to find the pieces that read night out rather than wedding party. So here is the party end of Coast, sorted.

“Coast is the high street that dresses like occasionwear. For a party, that is mostly a good thing.”

    — Molly

    What Coast is known for

Embellishment, mainly. Coast does hand-beading, sequins and boned bodices at a price point where most brands would give you a printed jersey and call it a day. The cut tends to flatter, so bandeau necklines, defined waists, and column and fishtail skirts that hold their shape. It is grown-up party dressing, and it wears its age well rather than chasing seventeen-year-olds.

The catch is that a lot of the sparkle lives in the occasion and bridal lines, which means wedding-guest territory. For a night out you want the party-sequin and velvet pieces, not the blush satin bridesmaid maxi. The edit below is already filtered that way.

The party colours of summer 2026

Block colour ran the spring runways, and it suits Coast, whose embellished pieces read better in a single rich shade than a busy print. The metallics have softened too. Coast leans into champagne, old gold and rose rather than hard chrome, which is exactly where the wider trend has landed for 2026.

The three ways Coast does a party dress

Sequins, velvet and black-tie drama. Coast has a distinct handwriting in each, so this is where its own-brand depth is worth shopping over a marketplace.

The sequins are the signature: hand-embellished, often ombre or scattered, on midi and column shapes that skim. Velvet is the autumn-into-party fabric, and Coast pairs it with sequin panels or a structured sleeve for something warmer than a slip. The third lane is the drama, so one-shoulder drapes, capes and fishtail gowns for when the invite actually says black tie.

    Coast party dresses under £100

Coast sits above fast fashion on price, which is the trade for the beading and the structure. Plenty of the party line still comes in under £100, and the rail below holds it there. It moves as stock does, so treat it as a live snapshot rather than a fixed list.

    Party dresses across every brand

The reason to shop this on SO-ME is the comparison. Put a Coast sequin midi next to ASOS, Oasis and everyone else we carry, same brief, one grid, and decide whether the embellishment is worth the extra outlay. Sometimes it is. Sometimes a cheaper version does the same job in a dark room.

Four things worth knowing before you buy

    01

Read the line, not just the dress

A Coast sequin dress from the party line and one from the bridal line photograph almost identically. Check the title and description so you do not turn up to a club in a hen-do dress.

    02

    Embellishment is heavy

Hand-beading has real weight, which is why Coast builds in structure and lining. That is a good thing for hold, but check the fabric and care notes, as a lot of it is hand-wash or dry-clean only.

    03

    Let the sparkle lead

A fully sequinned Coast midi does not need a busy shoe or a statement earring fighting it. Keep the rest plain and let the dress carry the room.

    04

    Column shapes want a heel

The fishtail and column skirts are cut long. They read elegant with a heel and slightly awkward with a flat, so factor the shoe in before you decide on the length.

Coast is the pick when you want a party dress that looks like it cost more than it did, and you care more about the embellishment than the trend. Steer around the wedding lines, lean into the sequins and velvet, and it earns its place. Stock on the good pieces goes fast, so if one is right, do not sit on it.
