Claudia Winkleman is back in the castle. The Celebrity Traitors returned to BBC One on 1 October for its second series, filmed again at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, and four episodes in, her clothes are getting nearly as much airtime as the backstabbing.
Her stylist, Sinéad McKeefry, plans 24 looks a series (12 for daytime and 12 for the round table), and this year the round-table half has gone properly gothic. Think black taffeta and floor-length brocade. Daytime is still the knitwear-and-kilt uniform she's known for, only darker, with one very red exception.
None of it hinges on one big statement piece. It's layering: a shirt under a knitted vest, a sheer top under a sleeveless dress, a pink shirt with a black kilt for no obvious reason. That part costs nothing to copy. Below are six looks from the first four episodes, each with a rail of similar pieces underneath.

Claudia Winkleman's Celebrity Traitors looks, episode by episode

A ruffled blouse under a black blazer
Episode one put her by the fire in a white ruffle-front blouse (Stylist identified it as Comme des Garçons) with a black blazer and black leggings. She looks like a highwayman, and I mean that as a compliment. Only one thing in the outfit is fussy. The ruffle gets all the attention because the blazer and leggings are completely plain, which is the whole trick. If there's already a black blazer in your wardrobe, the blouse is the only thing to buy, and a high neck with a frill down the front gets you most of the way.
Shop white high-neck blouses
The pieces under every look: boots, tights and sheer tops
The same supporting cast turns up under almost everything: black tights or leggings, chunky black boots and something high-necked. Sort those out and you can put whatever you like over the top.
How to make Claudia's castle style yours
Keep it to one fussy piece
A ruffle, or a bow, or brocade. Claudia never stacks them, and everything around the fussy piece is plain black.
Layer under a sleeveless dress
A sheer or fine-knit high-neck top under a summer dress is exactly how the doll dress works in October.
Wear a vest over a shirt
Pull the shirt cuffs down past the knit. It's the most Claudia move on this list and also the cheapest.
Allow one colour that feels slightly off
Next to that much black, a red tartan or a sugary pink looks deliberate rather than random.
Count the tights as part of the outfit
Thick black tights are what let her wear a mini and a kilt in the Highlands.
The series is still airing, so there's more black (and probably another kilt) to come. If you're starting from nothing, a knitted vest and a white shirt are the cheapest way in, and you'll wear both long after the final round table. Autumn knitwear and skirts sell through quickly at this time of year, so if one of these catches your eye, don't sit on it.
