Charli XCX spent the first half of 2026 on red carpets instead of festival stages, and she dressed for them the way she makes records: one idea per outfit, pushed slightly too far. A black feathered bodice on a white column at the Golden Globes. A pink lace gown and a floor-length veil in Leicester Square. Strapless black satin in Berlin, then a leather jacket and nothing else in Soho three days later. Her stylist Chris Horan called the Globes look "classic actress, but with a little bit of a twist", and that line covers the whole run.
I like her for the twist more than the glamour. Anyone with a stylist can wear Saint Laurent. The interesting part is that every outfit has something that shouldn't work on paper, and she wears it like it was obviously always going to. That is the bit worth borrowing, and it costs nothing.

The four looks, and what to take from each

Feathers on top, a plain white column underneath
She presented rather than collected, and wore two Saint Laurent archive pieces stitched into one dress: a feathered off-the-shoulder top from spring 2019, a black and white gown from autumn 1982, joined at the waist with a fat satin bow. Look at the photo and the trick is obvious. All the noise is above the waist. Below it there is a white skirt doing nothing at all, which is exactly why the feathers read as chic instead of fancy dress. Three strands of diamonds, hair pushed over one shoulder, and she let no other colour in. If you own one loud black top, this is how to wear it: find the plainest long white skirt you can and let the top do the talking.
Shop white maxi skirts
The pieces that finish the look
Across all four outfits the accessories barely change: black boots or black slingbacks on her feet, diamonds at her neck, nothing on her wrists. That consistency is the reason four quite different dresses read as one person.
How to make it yours
One thing wrong per outfit
Feathers, a hanging black thread, a slit, bare legs. Charli never has two. Pick the thing you'd usually talk yourself out of and keep everything else plain.
Let the top half be loud
The Globes dress is a feathered top on a blank skirt. A statement top over a plain maxi skirt is cheaper than a statement dress and you'll wear both halves again.
Black satin needs a simple neckline
Strapless or a straight bandeau. The fabric already catches the light; a cowl or ruching on top of it starts to look like a bridesmaid.
Match your boots to your jacket
Same black, same finish. The London look only works because the jacket and boots read as one piece of leather with a gap in the middle.
You don't need a stylist or the Saint Laurent archive for any of this. You need one decision you're a bit nervous about, and the nerve to leave it alone once you've made it. Prices and stock on the rails above move daily, so if something fits the brief, don't leave it in the basket.
