Wimbledon's just wrapped, the whites have had their fortnight in the sun, and if you've been anywhere near TikTok this summer you'll have clocked that the aesthetic actually gaining ground isn't the tennis club at all. It's blokette: a football jersey knotted over a pleated mini skirt, tube socks pulled up past the ankle, a bow clipped in somewhere it has no business being. Half terrace culture, half coquette. All contradiction, on purpose.

So what is blokette?
The name's a portmanteau, bloke plus coquette, coined on the Nymphet Alumni podcast back in 2022, and it's spent the years since steadily picking up an audience before this summer's football calendar gave it a proper shove. The hashtag's past a billion views on TikTok alone. The formula hasn't moved much: an oversized jersey or sports top, a pleated mini skirt underneath, trainers instead of anything remotely court-appropriate, and a handful of deliberately girly details (bows, gold hoops, a tiny bag) doing the work of softening it all down. Bella Hadid's worn it. So has half your For You page.
Why it is everywhere this summer
Blokecore, the half blokette is built on, has been circling since the early 2020s: '80s and '90s terrace fashion (jerseys, baggy jeans, Gazelles and Sambas) filtered through thrift shops and TikTok nostalgia. What's new is the football calendar itself. This year's tournaments have pushed demand for match shirts back up, and secondhand jerseys are still cheap enough that the whole look stays a thrift-and-mix job rather than a shopping list. Add a Wimbledon fortnight that's had tennis whites everywhere for two weeks straight, and the timing does the rest.
Not tenniscore, adjacent to it
Tenniscore had its moment at SW19 and it's not going anywhere: polo shirts, box pleats, a palette that stays inside the lines. Blokette borrows the pleated skirt and leaves the politeness behind. Where tenniscore reads quiet luxury, blokette wants you to know it raided someone's kit bag. The two aren't in competition; the skirt's doing double duty in either wardrobe, which is exactly why it's worth owning one regardless of which camp you land in.
