Always UV400, which blocks 99-100% of UVA and UVB. Look for CE or UKCA mark. Lens darkness doesn't indicate UV protection, a dark lens without proper coating can actually cause more damage by dilating your pupils. Polarised lenses reduce glare and are ideal for driving.

Premium sunglasses offer better lens quality, construction, and optics. But many affordable brands now offer excellent UV protection. The key factors are UV400 certification and comfortable fit. If you frequently lose sunglasses, mid-range offers the best balance of quality and "I can live with losing these" peace of mind.
